The banes of organising a gathering

Just had dinner with yibs at cck (yummy bbq wings). Our post-dinner conversation revolves around the wedding dinner on wed and meeting up with friends/classmates we've not seen for ages. And soon, we began comparing notes on the peeves and banes we faced when we try to organise a get-together. Some of them include:

1. Asking "who else is going ah?"
2. "What a great idea! Should be ok for me, but i confirm with you later k?"
3. "Huh, why meet at this place. very sian leh. What's the program like?"
4. "On ah! Just tell me the time and place can already!" and on the day itself, "Eh, the place too ulu already lah, why choose to meet at such a place? Me at AMK now leh, u all meet at queensway..."
5. Giving no reply at all, leaving us wondering if he/she received our email/sms.

AND, the worst thing is to meet anyone (who is not ON for any gathering) and he/she questions,"Eh, very long never meet already leh. Organise a gathering lah!" Well, i can only say that you sld be glad that i did not cut you off right on the spot.

Understandably, as we grow older, our social circle widens. our priorities differ. our time becomes more precious. there are more things to be done. we are sucked into this hectic lifestyle where we gotta decide the best option for ourselves. That's why we no longer commit to a gathering, a meet up, a simple meal. It seems ironic, but lately, it seems like any arrangements made 1 week in advance will never materialise, but a last minute "hey, dinner later?" works well 80% of the time.

but, as yibs and I have concluded, it works only if we stay near each other. Will yibs and shihai remain as such good friends who meet up almost everyday, if shihai moves to pasir ris? Will i get to have spontaneous meet ups with yibs for coffee or bbq wings or prata if i move to punggol? Well, hopefully we'll still meet up, but it'll no longer be prata at bt timah? dinner at cck? BUT prata at jalan kayu? Dinner in orchard? and chances are, the meet-ups will be less frequent.

so all i can say is, cherish what we have now, dear buddies and friends. i do admit that i am one of those who commit the same banes... but i do appreciate the close friends i have, and i do know that if one day i do call them up in the middle of the night, needing them by my side, they will come to me. I hope.
