Unknowns

When too many unknowns present themselves, I realise the wise thing to do, is perhaps to focus on the knowns.

Coming back from HK, now listed as an affected country, we faced many unknowns. Did we come into contact with any infected case? Was that ang moh in the seat in front of us from Australia? Did we put ourselves at too much risk to proceed with our holiday plans?

The knowns: Most tourist attractions we visited, could hardly be defined as 'crowded'. Cases in HK are mainly confined to schools, and we hardly bumped into any student during our 6 days there. We monitor temperature regularly, and the hand sanitizer went everywhere with me.

As a precautionary measure, we are staying away from work for a couple more days after our return from work. It's my bid to be socially responsible, and hope what every other Singaporean is doing as well.

As a full-time working mum, there are even more unknowns that well, sometimes do not emerge until certain issues arise. How do you strike a balance between family and life? How do you give your all to strive for a better career, knowing that every hour spent at work means an hour away from your family? How do you know if you miss one opportunity, it'd ever present itself again?

The knowns: In my heart, I truly wanted to challenge myself and give it a shot. If others believe in me, why shouldn't I?
